After a 30 second warm up, we went straight up out of town on a 10-20% grade. Whew. Went west mostly along the coast, going up and down through small towns. At one point we dropped down to the sea to another 15th century Venetian fortress:
After a short break, I noticed some switchbacks way up the hill; they looked too extreme to be a road, more like a dirt path like we see a lot. It didn't really show up on the map either. But then I saw a couple cars on it. Hmmm. So as we rode by and saw a road heading in that direction, on impulse I headed up, and Lorilei followed me (of course) while Bob and Paul headed to the hotel. It was a very short day, after all.
Turned out to be a fairly new road, one small lane, no guardrails, often with scattered rocks on it, and dozens of switchbacks. Awesome. We climbed for 1,500' before turning around and heading back for the hotel - we have a big day tomorrow.
