Woke up to cool overcast weather, windy of course. Decided to ride a little easier today, since it was a short day, and we could use it as a partial recovery day. Hard to do with all the climbing, of course. Had a lot of bad roads again today; washed out sections, etc. Another cattle roadblock, but this time they were going the same direction as us, so it took a while to get through. We couldn't just ride up to them until they moved, since they were randomly fertilizing the road, so you don't want to get too close (just ask Paul). Cruising past more windmills:
At one point we went through a stretch of extra-bad roads, followed by a long dirt/gravel road to get to the Regaleali winery where we stopped for a tour/tasting/lunch:
After the tour we started with a couple appetizers coupled with a nice bubbly (brut, not prosecco), then moved in for lunch. First antipasta, then two pastas, then main courses, then dessert, accompanied by 2 whites and 2 reds, all quite good. We were joined by 4 visitors from Estonia and two from Spain (both sommeliers). Then there were the Californians in their smelly bike clothes:
And yes, then we had to go back out in 80 degree temps onto the crumbling roads and ride back to the start. We are eating way too much on this trip!
