Bagneres de Luchon to Sort
Started out climbing immediately from town under questionable skies. First up was our last French hill, the Col du Portillon, a cat 2 2,100’ climb through the forest. Had some light r**n half way up, but it stopped when we reached the top, which was also when we entered Spain for the rest of the trip. The downhill was on wet pavement, so not a lot of fun. As usual, as soon as we hit the bottom, we started going up again through a long river valley with some headwinds.
Eventually started the real climb under sunny skies up to the Port de la Bonaigua, a long cat 1 rise that was not too steep, but went on and on, up another 4,000’. A couple shots on the climb and on top:
The riding today was very nice, but not as many photo spots as the last few days. The downhill off the Bonaigua was fun; I hope to post a video of it later. After the main descent we had a gradual drop for the last 30K of the day, with some rollers, and a nasty headwind.
Now all we have to do is remember to speak Spanish and stop speaking French!
