Day 1

25 Miles; 2,700'
Today was the first official day of the tour. It was a short ride in the hills just South of Christchurch - some excellent climbing on nearly deserted roads. It's still weird on the left side of the road - it's especially scary descending fast going around blind corners, since your mind is telling you that a car is coming around the corner in your lane! Shiver. But, the weather was once again very pleasant, though a pesky cool wind would cut through occasionally.

We decided we should stock up for the rest of the trip:

One case of mixed NZ SB, one of mixed pinots. Funny to watch them try to select wines based on the labels! It could get dangerous on this tour; last night we went through a couple SBs and a couple pinots. Hard (and pointless) to try and keep up with Rinaldi.
